AZULEJO OF PINS
2013, Guimarães, Portugal
Azulejos are traditional mosaics for the artistic design of house façades and interiors in Portugal and Spain. The glaze techniques originate from the Persian area, where mainly blue colors were used. The project deals with the beautiful ornaments of the Azulejos, which the artist transformed into a new image made of pins on transparent plastic foil. You can see both sides of the image through the plexiglass frame. Spectators see the blue pinheads on the front and the stainless steel needles on the back. The plastic foil was sewn onto the plexiglass frame by hand.
