Elisabeth Gschiel´s Financial links beschäftigt sich mit der Immobilienwirtschaft. Nach der SIGNA-Pleite im Jahr 2024 – dem größten Konkurs eines Immobilienunternehmens in der Geschichte Österreichs – kamen massive, undurchsichtige Finanzkonstrukte ans Licht. Die Bauwirtschaft gilt seit jeher als Motor einer gut funktionierende Wirtschaft, aber wenn Immobilien als Handelsware genutzt werden und die Spekulationsblase schließlich platzt, hat das Scheitern Auswirkungen auf die gesamte Gesellschaft. Die Künstlerin, die selbst aus der Architektur kommt, arbeitet seit vielen Jahren mit Symbolen der Ökonomie – Hochspannungsmasten, Schienenkonstrukte oder Baukräne. Mit ihrer Nähmaschine näht sie fragile Konstruktionen auf Papier und die frei-hängenden Fäden verleihen den sachlichen Motiven eine einzigartige Poesie.

Elisabeth Gschiel´s Financial links deals with the real estate industry. After the SIGNA bankruptcy in 2024 – the largest bankruptcy of a real estate company in Austria’s history – massive, opaque financial constructs came to light.
The construction industry is always seen as the engine of a well-functioning economy, but if real estate is used as a commodity and the speculative bubble finally bursts, the failure has repercussions for society as a whole.
Coming from an architectural background herself, the artist has been working with symbols of the economy for many years – high-voltage pylons, rail structures and construction cranes. She uses her sewing machine to sew fragile constructions onto paper and the free-hanging threads lend the factual motifs a unique poetry.
